Underground gutter drains are a great option for some gutter installations. They are worth considering if you can’t create the proper grade around the foundation where a downspout would normally terminate. If a downspout is going to drain too much water than the soil or grade can handle, underground gutter drains are a great option. They are also worth considering if you simply don’t want an “unsightly” downspout.
With an underground gutter system, the downspout drains into a flexible hose that is buried under the ground. As the water pressure builds up in the underground hose, it “spills out” through an emitter, or “pop up” in the ground. The water comes out of the pop up slow enough so that it gradually disperses through the yard to prevent any damage or erosion.
